Image Comics paid homage to the great action comics of the 1960s in this six-part series. Each of the comics featured a different set of super-heroes and stories, and the last issue tied all the stories together. Though none of the characters had ever existed before, they’ll still seem familiar to fans of Silver Age comics.
The series was produced by some of today’s hottest talent, including writer Alan Moore (Watchmen, V For Vendetta), however it took pains to do everything in the style of the sixties. Artwork and dialog were decidedly old-fashioned, and even the credits (“Immaculate inks by Dashin’ Dave Gibbons! Lyrical letters by Dandy Don Simpson!”) harked back to the first issues of Fantastic Four. Image further added to the illusion by including references to non-existent “previous” storylines and spoofs of 1960s comic book ads throughout.
