ABC Warriors (DC)

As the Volgan War rages across and beyond Earth in the future, the weapons deployed by both sides become more and more dangerous—until finally, the taboos against weapons of mass destruction are swept away. To succeed on this new battlefield, Earth fields the ABC (Atomic–Biological–Chemical) Warriors, robot soldiers who first deployed in 2000 A.D. on June 1979. After the one–armed Sergeant Hammerstein causes the death of a human officer, he is protected from detection by the mysterious Colonel Lash. Together with his surviving companions (ice–cold sniper Joe Pineapples and old–timer Happy Shrapnel), the gruff but decent robot is sent to recruit the best troopers on the planet for his new squad. But only after he gathers monstrous Mongrol, mysterious Deadlock, treacherous Blackblood and the unlucky Steelhorn (whose ill–timed embrace of pacifism leads to his transformation into the amorphous Mess) into a team does the Colonel reveal the true reason he summoned them.
