Super Bad James Dynomite

Created by the Wayans Brothers comedy team, this full-color MAD Magazine-style take on 1970s-era blaxploitation from 5-D Comics emphasizes politically incorrect imagery and the hilariously offensive R-rated humor the Wayans brothers are famous for. Brother Marlon describes the title character as “Inspector Clouseau recast as a black exploitation hero.” A clumsy ex-pimp and ex-cop, Dynomite fights crime “despite himself” using notably less violence than the usual blaxploitation hero. Somewhere in there is a plot about stopping a drug dealer, but sight gags and Dynomite’s bodacious afro drive the story more than anything else. Robert Reed and Darren Huang contribute excellent artwork that recalls R. Crumb and Mad Magazine’s Don Martin.
