Superman in Action Comics

    (Abbeville, 1994)
™ and ©1994 DC Comics

Whether it’s a handy collector’s reference or a pocket full of nostalgia, the two-volume Superman in Action Comics offers something for both the serious collector and comics lover alike. This set, bound in the trim size of a Big Little Book, sports full-color reproductions of every Action Comics cover up to the 1980s. Volume One contains the first 25 years, from the priceless first issue that introduced Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s creation to the world, up to the Silver Age. Volume Two contains covers from the second quarter-century, from the years when artist Curt Swan held sway, on into John Byrne’s (The Man of Steel, Next Men) reinvention era of the late 1980s. Although mostly pure eye candy on glossy paper, the set also features text introductions by Mark Waid, writing more in his capacity as a comics historian than as the stellar writer of JLA, Kingdom Come and others.
