Troubled by a teeming population and ever-dwindling resources, humanity begins its expansion into space with the construction of gigantic space colony clusters. A charismatic demagogue proclaims that the colonies should be independent of Earthbound governments. The confrontation between the newly formed Zeon Republic and the Earth Federation erupts into the One-Year War. Early battles are ghastly as nuclear and biological weapons are indiscriminately used without remorse. Appalled by the carnage, both sides sign a treaty prohibiting nuclear and biological weapons. Hostilities have ceased after twelve long months as each side suffered heavy casualties and great losses. Three years later, ominous storm clouds of civil war once again threaten humanity with oblivion. However, the outcome will be determined by humanoid robots known as “mobile suits,” mankind’s newest weapon of destruction. For some it is a battle for order and for others it is a fight for freedom.
