Logan’s Run (Adventure)
(Adventure, 1990-1991)
™ and ©1990 William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson
Logan’s Run is a six-issue mini-series which faithfully adapts the William F. Nolan novel. The story is set in a future where population concerns result in the ultimate in self-indulgent youth culture. Amidst all the fun, a crystal flower implanted in each citizen’s hand glows a color that marks off the days of his or her life. When they reach the age of 22, the crystal changes color from red to black, and the citizen must enter a “sleepshop,” and partake in what amounts to organized mass suicide. Understandably, some people look for a way out and run instead. When that happens, it’s up to the policemen, called Sandmen, to track them down and end their lives by force.
Runners dream of freedom in a place called “Sanctuary.” The Sandman Logan-3 is assigned to infiltrate the runner network and discover Sanctuary’s location. To further motivate him, his own crystal is turned black before its time. Once a Sandman, now Logan himself must run.
