This 1986 series brought the popular role-playing game “Champions” to the comics for the first time. Although Dungeons & Dragons had gotten the whole role-playing phenomenon going, Champions gave players the chance to take on the roles of super-heroes themselves, using an elaborate gaming system which let players choose different paranormal abilities, and duke it out with super-villains.

The Champions themselves are a sort of Justice League of new characters that battle the obligatory bad guys. This series gives players a feel for how the characters might interact, as well as gaming sheets to allow readers to use them as characters in their own Champions games. The series introduced several of the core Champions which would later appear in their own titles, including Flare, Icicle, and Marksman.
