The world of the near future has become violent and corrupt beyond measure. Worst of all is the old city of Detroit. There, corporate giant Omni Consumer Products succeeded in buying out the city’s contract for law enforcement. They actually own the police department.

OCP’s head dreamed of tearing down Old Detroit and building a new city, Delta City, in its place. To achieve this end, however, he’d need to find a way to get crime under control. He got his opportunity when a veteran cop named Alex Murphy was gunned down in the line of duty. OCP’s scientists took the dead cop’s body and transplanted it into a new metal one. The resulting cyborg was dubbed Robocop, a police officer who would never tire, never go on strike, and which no crook could stop. What OCP didn’t count on was Murphy’s intense sense of duty. He would be a new breed of cop, but he would serve the interests of justice, not OCP.
