Lord Pumpkin/NecroMantra
(Malibu, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Malibu Comics Entertainment, Inc.
This double series picks up right after the Godwheel saga which brought Malibu’s Ultraverse into contact with the Marvel Universe. (At the same time, in the real world, Marvel was busy acquiring Malibu Comics). The title is a flip-book, with one side starring Lord Pumpkin, the jack o’lantern-headed villain from Godwheel, and the other featuring NecroMantra, an evil rendition of the original Mantra. The latter character was originally Thanasi, one of Archimage’s Knights. Thanasi came to betray Archimage, however, for the promise of living on in other forms. He then took over the Mantra’s body, before being exorcised and thrust into a new, female body.
As the series begins, both Lord Pumpkin and NecroMantra are reeling from the effects of the Godwheel episode, and both seek out the magical powers which they once possessed. Although their stories run independently, rest assured that neither is up to any good.
