Dr. Wonder

    (Old Town, 1996-1997)
™ and ©1997 Old Town Publishing, Ltd.

Part magazine, part comic book and all love, this creation of publisher/editor David Allikas, put out by Old Town Publishing, Inc., is one big homage to the Silver Age of Marvel and DC Comics.

Dick Ayers draws a Dr. Wonder adventure penned by Allikas, while Jim Lawless offers a creepy prose short. How did anyone get along without the nifty grid detailing the powers of various mean monsters before this, let alone manage without the useful tidbits in the convention report? Academics are covered, ranging from an essay about Superman’s marriages to burning questions answered by Craig “Ask Mr. Silver Age” Shutt, whose column also appears in Comics Buyers Guide. And in the letters page, everyone from Silver Age artist Herb Trimpe to then-Image offical Jim Valentino offers comments.
