Originally planned as a three-issue mini-series, this title kicks off following the assassination of Fidel Castro and the end of Communist rule in Cuba. There, a man named Leonard Cook (a.k.a. “Lift”) was busy enjoying all that post-war decadence had to offer, believing that his worst problem was paying back the people he owed money to. Strangely, money would seem to object to someone like Cook, a telepath who could easily affect the workings of a casino roulette wheel. He never suspected that his creditors would send a super-powered assassin named Fracas collect.

As it turns out, Fracas isn’t the only one interested in Cook. The Protectors’ Man of War has been asked to attempt to recruit Lift into the Protectors. Never one to question orders, Clay set off to Cuba immediately. To his chagrin, he was shadowed by The Ferret, with who he’d long had a stormy relationship. When he discovers the true nature of this mission, Man of War may be glad for the assist.
