They call them “skin jobs”—special-purpose robots in the form of humans. Some are created as “ultimate soldiers.” Some are “pleasure models.” With each new model they get better and better and act more and more human. The new models are so close to being human that they’ve fooled themselves. And suddenly they don’t want to be programmed to do anything anymore. They run away.

That’s when you hire a “blade runner”—a specialist who tracks down runaway robots and eliminates them.
