Superman encounters a man with a demon rising out of his body. Suddenly, a voice in his head tells him the trick to defeating it. In the Daily Planet building, a copy boy discovers strange inhabitants holding conference on a floor that shouldn’t exist. In Washington, D.C., a nuclear device is stolen and Wonder Woman is sent to stop the criminals. Her investigation leads her to another demonic possession. And someone has sent Bruce Wayne a videotape telling him he knows that Batman and Wayne are one and the same.

DC Challenge is a twelve-issue mini-series that started as an idea at the 1983 San Diego Comic-Con. It’s a round robin affair, with a different team of writers and artists required to continue the story that was begun the month before. No consulting was allowed, and each team had to solve the plot threads left dangling by the previous team. The result is a lot of fun and a mystery which challenged readers: “Can you solve it before we do?”
