Mad About Millie

Millie the Model began her long run in 1945, and her “home” series ended in 1973. Marvel published several other Millie titles over the years—Life With Millie, A Date With Millie, and this one, Mad About Millie, which ran from 1969 until 1970. Millie is a fashion model who gets into all sorts of Archie Andrews-esque situations, including competitions with her Reggie Mantle-esque rival, Chili. Like Archie comics, the Millie titles are designed to appeal to younger teens, particularly girls, and their emphasis is on lighthearted fun. Because this title’s short run fell in the heart of the bell-bottoms era, the fashions here are very indicative of the early 1970s—lots of beads, flared legs, and wild prints; and, hey, many of the stories were written by Stan “The Man” Lee himself!
