Chip ’n’ Dale (1st series)
(Dell, 1953-1962)
™ and © Dell Publishing Co.
A lesser known product of the Disney kiddie-comic machine of the 1950s, Chip ‘n Dale are two terminally cute chipmunks with a penchant for getting into trouble. They occasionally interact with other members of the Disney universe such as Donald Duck and the nephews, but generally stick to self-contained funny animal antics in the forest or farmyard. Humor comes not only from the usual hijinks, but also from the interaction between the two furry protagonists. Dell’s customary attention to quality ensures that this otherwise by-the-numbers exercise is nonetheless readable and enjoyable for its target audience of younger readers.
