Series picks up numbering from Son of Vulcan #50 following issue #1

The Silver Age hit Charlton Comics the way the Renaissance hit Russia. They knew something important was going on in the outside world and really wanted to be a part of it, but in a fundamental way, they just didn’t get it. While the 1960s at Marvel and DC brought exciting new art and storytelling ideas that reinvigorated the super-hero genre, at Charlton it brought stiff, costumed figures and hand-lettering (an improvement to be sure, but…). Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt, is a globe-trotting adventurer in the mold of Doc Savage, who inexplicably dons a red-and-blue costume and mask when the action gets hot and heavy. The backup feature was The Sentinels, about a rock band (”They’re gear, man!”) that transforms into super-heroes by night. Peter Cannon…Thunderbolt was acquired by DC in the 1980s and played a small part in The Crisis on Infinite Earths.
