The Pact

The Pact first appeared as an “ashcan” inside ShadowHawk (Vol. 2) #3. This three-issue mini-series lets us see them in action, as the team of Slam, Handgunn, Cutlass, and Blacklight fight everyone from the Renegades to Youngblood. Along the way, we also get some background on the team’s members.

Blacklight was considered the premier super-hero of the 1960s, along with his partner Day-Glo. Since her death in 1975, however, the aging hippie super-hero has gone into semi-retirement (although he occasionally acts as a Youngblood instructor). Team-leader Slam! (a.k.a. Bobby Sterling) used to be a pro-wrestler, clinching the world title at age 16 through his emerging super-strength. Cutlass and Handgunn are equally interesting, although possibly the most impressive character is actually Bobby’s mother, a tough old lady who is able to make leviathans like Badrock shut up and listen, simply by exercising the proper attitude.
