Shado: Song of the Dragon

    (DC, 1992)
™ and ©1992 DC Comics, Inc.

The tale began during World War II when an American G.I. killed a Japanese officer during a fierce fight. As a souvenir, he took the officer’s weapon: a sword. Forty five years later, that G.I. is still haunted by the war and the sword. To ease his conscience, he decided to return it.

When he brought it to an antique shop for examination, he learned of the sword’s origin, an origin rooted with the Yakuza. The Yakuza have been compared to the Mafia, but they are far more sinister and their power stretches further into the corridors of power. The antique store owner (a woman known to Green Arrow fans as Shado) travels with the former-G.I. to Japan to try to discover the sword’s true owner. What happens next is an adventure rich in the mystery and tradition of Japan.
