Sarge Snorkel

Beetle Bailey, Mort Walker’s popular comic strip featuring the lighter side of Army life, ran in comic book form from various publishers for eighteen years. During its Charlton run, this companion title was published featuring Beetle’s long-suffering sergeant, Sarge Snorkel.

Although largely a foil for, and victim of Beetle’s desire to avoid any kind of duty or responsibility, Snorkel accumulated several characteristics and foibles of his own to make him more than a supporting character. His constant confrontations with his pompous office mate, Lieutenant Fuzz; his voracious appetite that continually challenged the camp cook; and his blustery facade that hides a good heart made him a worthy candidate for his own title.
