Aquaman (1st Series)

Aquaman, half-human, half-Atlantean, can communicate telepathically with sea animals, and to a limited extent, with humans. He has physically evolved to manage the greater pressures of the sea, has a strength far beyond that of earth-bound humans and can swim at over one hundred miles an hour. These super-powers, however, give him no advantage whatsoever in his personal life, which weaves through the series giving the character motivation and personality. By the end of the series, Aquaman has discovered his Atlantean heritage, loved and wed, and suffered the brutal murder of his beloved son, as well has matched wits and might with some of the cleverest arch-villains in comicdom.

Long a guest-star in various DC titles, in 1962 Aquaman finally got this, his first solo series. Successful at first, its popularity faded and the series went on hiatus in 1971. It was brought back for a few final issues in 1977.
