Creator Evan Dorkin sums it up nicely in his intro to issue #7 of this infamous series: “There’s this milk and there’s this cheese, see, and they don’t like much of anything and they do stuff.” What they do is primarily get loaded on anything intoxicating they can lay their mitts on while creating incredible mayhem. These “dairy products gone bad” are foul-mouthed alcoholics with a hate-on for just about everyone. Oh yes, and they’re incredibly funny.

Published sporadically since 1991, Evan Dorkin delights in confounding collectors with odd issue numberings (the first six issues were called Milk & Cheese #1, Milk & Cheese’s 2nd #1, 3rd #1, 4th #1, Other #1 and #666 respectively). He also eviscerates comic store owners, Weight Watchers, Renaissance fairs, and other sitting-duck targets. Ironically, the sheer spite of the comic accounts for much of its appeal—and even Hollywood has sought the rights to feature these unlovable characters.
