Green Goblin

Longtime readers of Marvel comics will recognize the Green Goblin as the arch-nemesis of Spider-Man. In this series, the Green Goblin’s mantle has passed to Philip Urich, nephew of veteran Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich. Even more interestingly, this Green Goblin is not a villain.

This series portrays a young man who has acquired an assortment of weapons and paraphernalia and who tries to do the right thing without placing himself in danger. The tried-and-true Marvel tactic of depicting ordinary people dealing with extraordinary situations is much in evidence here, and evokes the feel of early Spider-Man stories. But can the super-villain legacy of Green Goblin be overcome? Though Philip Urich revels in the excitement, he may not have the devotion necessary to be accepted as a hero.
