Aces
(Acme, 1988)
©1988 Acme Press Limited. Individual stories are © their creators.
Aces is a stylish black and white magazine produced by England’s Acme Comics and distributed by Eclipse Comics’ international branch. A serial anthology title, it specializes in Jazz Age genre fiction, filling its pages with the exploits of vicious gangsters and hardboiled private investigators.
Among its features are “Hollywood Eye,” a smart bit of Tinseltown detective intrigue by Francois Rivière, J.L. Bocquet, and artist Philippe Berthet; “Air Mail,” a story by Attilio Micheluzi that mixes dashing pilots and nasty mobsters; and “Morgan” by Antonio Segura and José Ortiz, a bleak story of revenge which seems an early ancestor to Frank Miller’s brilliant Sin City.
