A world of beauty, a world of tragedy. A world of danger, a world of helplessness. All of these things co-exist in this richly visual series based on a story by comic book legend Alan Moore. The Baroque beauty of the House Without Clocks looks like something out of a fairy tale, but its mysterious inhabitants bring to mind the dark undertones of many of those stories. These inhabitants include solemn Book, whose skin is covered in cryptic tattooed words, and stern Mistress Ouish, this house of ill repute’s proprietor. Mute Som-Som sees all—including a world of wizards and mysterious creatures—but is tragically unable to either speak or act on any of it.

This black-and-white series, written by Antony Johnston and drawn by Lorenzo Lorente, shows Moore’s gift for characters and symbolism, all the while feeling like something out of a dream.
