Smith Brown Jones is a goofy send-up of 90s X-Files culture courtesy of independent creator Jon “Bean” Hastings. Smith Brown Jones is a bumbling Everyman alien, accompanied by a disembodied floating troublemaker named Pops. They are pursued by the vaguely sinister Mel and Chuck, agents of a goofy, alien mastermind named Mr. Phtang. And that’s way more than anyone needs to know about the plot, since most of the enjoyment of Smith Brown Jones comes from the Marx-Brothers school of non-sequitur humor combined with an offbeat art style that, at its best, mixes equal parts Don (Mad) Martin and Dave (Cerebus) Sim.
