Mutt & Jeff
(DC, 1939-1965)
™ and ©1955 National Comics Publications Inc.
Bud Fisher’s nutty duo, Mutt and Jeff, have been mainstays on the pages of the Sunday newspaper comic sections since the 1910s. Tall and skinny Mutt, in his cheap suit and hat, is the perpetual fall-guy for the antics of the sawed-off troublemaker Jeff, who is half Mutt’s height even with his trademark top hat on.
Mutt and Jeff have appeared in comic books since the 1930s, including Funnies on Parade, credited as the first comic book published. They had their own title, published by one of the DC companies, All-American Comics, from 1939 into the 1950s, when publishing chores were taken over by humor specialist Harvey Comics.
