Daredevil Comics began as an above-average Golden Age super-hero title from quality-conscious Lev Gleason Publishing. Under the guidance of writer/artist Charles Biro, Daredevil evolved into a forum for some of the most poignant stories to appear in comics.

Armed with only his courage, ability, and uncanny skill with the boomerang, masked acrobat Daredevil made his debut in Silver Streak #6 (1940), taking on one of the most fearsome villains of the Golden Age, the Claw. Their epic battle spilled into the pages of Daredevil Comics in 1941 and lasted for 31 action-packed issues.

At that point, Biro introduced a gang of kids called the Little Wise Guys. Biro’s style became more grittier, the situations more brutal and dark. Daredevil unmasked, and became a mentor to the kids, whose increasingly dramatic adventures eventually pushed the title character aside.
