Invaders (4th Series)

Series becomes New Invaders with issue #3.

Invaders #0, being the conclusion of a story from Avengers, could be seen as a “lost issue” of that title. Or, perhaps, one that was thrown out because the art was not up to par.

The Invaders are USAgent, Namor, Spitfire, Union Jack, and a few less familiar faces. Blazing Skull is back, apparently immortal and insane. There’s a new, female Human Torch. (What, another one?) This issue reintroduces Marvel’s Thin Man, who is less funny and more powerful than readers may recall.

Having been rerouted here from Avengers in order to finish the story, readers may be enticed to stick with it. The characters are certainly intriguing enough. But, as mentioned, the art leaves something to be desired.

Why is The Wasp’s face swollen? Namor appears to speak without opening his lips. In general, Marvel mainstays just don’t look right. Some series appropriately use more experimental looks, but this fairly straightforward super-hero title would be well advised to go with a more traditional look, at least until it earns its wings.
