The Legion of Super-Heroes (2nd Series)

First appearing in Adventure Comics #247, the Legion of Super-Heroes is a group of teenaged heroes from the 30th century. Over time, their membership has included Mon-El, Phantom Girl, Dawnstar, Timber Wolf, Brainiac, Ultra Boy, Saturn Girl, Star Boy, Chemical King, the Invisible Kid, and numerous others. The roster got so full at one point that a second “Legion of Substitute Heroes” had to be formed as a place to keep the second-string team.

The series, which started out as “Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes,” starred the youthful Kryptonian throughout most of its run. When Superboy left the series in issue #259 in 1980, it became known simply as “The Legion of Super-Heroes.” Superboy returned to the series in issue #280, though he was never again mentioned in the title.
