Blue Ribbon Comics (Vol. 2)

Humor publisher Archie Comics’ response to the periodic fluctuations of interest in super-heroes has been to dust off their aging stable of characters developed in the 1940s, and package them with the look and feel of what’s currently popular. That was the case with Blue Ribbon Comics, one of the “Archie Adventure Series” from the early 1980s, featuring the predictable lineup of The Fox, The Shield, The Fly, the Black Hood, the Web, and the THUNDER Agents. Seasoned comics pros like Dick Ayers, Rich Buckler, Tony DeZuniga and Al Williamson supplied competent artwork, but the by-the-numbers approach failed to generate much enthusiasm, the release of the books coincided with a downturn in the comics market, and the attempt was abandoned after two years.
