I Spy was the first television series to star a black actor in a non-comedy role. What’s equally significant is that the actor was none other than the popular stand up comedian of the day, Bill Cosby, who went on to even greater success with sitcoms and variety shows in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. At the time, Cosby along with Robert Kulp, globe-traveled as two undercover agents. The 1965-1968 TV series lent itself well to the comic book format that lasted for the duration.
