Fury: Peacemaker

Sergeant Nicholas Fury was a born leader of men, but that doesn’t help much when you have incompetent officers over you and no support whatsoever. In 1943, Fury’s entire squad was wiped out in Tunisia by a German general called Barkhorn and his Panzer division. One of Hitler’s youngest generals and a gentleman to boot, Barkhorn let Fury live, something that irked Nick for years. Now, in 1944, Operation Peacemaker is set into motion. It’s objective: the assassination of Field Marshal Barkhorn. A crack team is sent in, but only five make it through to find Barkhorn already gone to Berlin. And Barkhorn’s mission? To assassinate Adolph Hitler.

Garth Ennis has put together an interesting tale of World War Two, showing readers that there are lies within lies and why many who plan battles seldom understand what is really needed. Here also we see glimpses of Fury’s development as a person. During the war, little character traits were introduced to him that he carried even into his career as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and where he learned a little truth—whatever you do in life, enjoy yourself.
