The Black Pearl (Dark Horse)

    (Dark Horse, 1996-1997)
™ and ©1996 Mark Hamill

“A twisted hero for a twisted world,” is the slogan of this dark avenger series from Mark Hamill (Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker) and Eric Johnson, with art by H.M. Baker and Bruce Patterson. The world in question is the film-noir landscape of Hollywood— not the Hollywood of glitz and glamour, but the nether world of all-night liquor stores, cheap noodle joints, and check cashing stores, populated by low-life criminals, prostitutes, and desperate masses poised on the brink of riot. The Black Pearl is a masked vigilante with a resemblance to the original Sandman, whose efforts at heroism eventually lead to tragedy.
