A four-issue miniseries written by Kurt Busiek and Len Wein, Book of Thoth relates the engaging tragedy of a wretched beggar boy name Thoth who goes on to become Conan the Barbarian’s greatest enemy, Thoth-amon. Taking a Dickensian approach to the poverty and cruelty that crushes young Thoth’s spirit, and putting him on the path of no return, Busiek and Wein raise a taut, gothic nightmare from the dregs of a wasted life. Colorist Michelle Madsen applies a palette of blues, browns and golds to Kelley Jones’ dynamic and expressive illustration.
