Empowered

“Empowered” is an unusual name for a super-heroine and she knows it. Her powers come from a super-suit that is very tight, very revealing, and very thin. So thin that, even though it deflects bullets, it can be ripped by a rose thorn. Empowered’s suit is forever being shredded and Empowered is forever being captured and tied-up in stories that are self-aware and highly amusing.

They do, however, skate dangerously close to soft-core porn. Empowered’s tattered costume and long hair generally conceal her naughty bits, but did we really need the pubic-hair shaving scenes with her thug boyfriend?

The thug boyfriend is just one in a cast of entertaining characters. There are copious heroes, villains, reformed villains, and alien conquerors. Their interactions with Empowered, who is the least of the heroes, are quite enjoyable. The manga-inspired art is also quite engaging. The only real flaw is that the sexual overtones are strong enough to make the book distasteful for many readers, while perhaps not quite graphic enough for people who really want that kind of thing.
