Raise the Dead

As groups of hungry zombies pound on the doors of a small Midwestern diner, the terrified customers inside realize they’re trapped. So begins the latest zombie offering from writers John Reppion and Leah Moore, daughter of comics superstar Alan Moore. As the onslaught worsens, flashbacks tell the story of each customer and what led them to this particular place and time. There’s the bus driver who was just passing through. Her dark-eyed passenger. The two adorable kids suffering from an unpleasant incident with their zombie mother. The no-nonsense business man. And the waitress and cook—who both look a little green…

Readers tend not to ask too much of zombie yarns, and Raise the Dead provides all the expected beats, from live cast members becoming undead to narrow escapes from the shambling monsters. Unfortunately, the book is a little too rote, adding nothing original or insightful to the zombie genre.
