The Transformers: Best of UK: Dinobots

After IDW’s run of reprinted US Transformer comics (Transformers: Generations), the publisher turned toward reprinting stories from Marvel UK Transformer comics, many of which had never been seen in the United States before. Up first was Transformers, The: Target 2006, and second is this mini-series centered around the Dinobots, a group of five animalistic Autobots whose alternate modes are, as might be expected, dinosaurs. In this series, Autobot medic Ratchet discovers that 4,000,000 years of dormancy in a tar pit (in Marvel Comics’ Savage Land, oddly enough) has fused circuitry in their robotic brains, causing the Dinobots to become even more primal than ever. Now they posses little reasoning ability, instead letting their animal instincts take them rampaging wherever they desire. Optimus Prime and the other Autobots must hunt down the Dinobots before they do any major damage, but the evil Decepticons have their own interest in the Dinobots as well.

An interesting bit of comics trivia is that art in this series is provided by none other than Barry Kitson, who would go on to become a famous collaborator with Mark Waid on JLA: Year One, Empire, and The Legion of Super-Heroes.
