From 1989 to 1995 Marvel Comics Presents was the premiere anthology series in the comics marketplace. Fans could read this series from month to month not sure which creators or characters would get the spotlight, and each issue featured a rotating lineup of stories (usually four in all) by different creative teams. Although Wolverine/Weapon X stories were the breakout hit of that series’ 175-issue run, lesser characters like Shanna, Vengeance, and Nova also got their time in the spotlight thanks to the series’ unique format. Now Marvel has decided to give the series a go again, with few changes. The first issue of the new run sports five stories instead of four, and two of them (the two featuring the most famous characters—Spider-Man and Thing) are only one-shots, but much else is the same: the spotlight on minor characters (like Hellcat and Weapon Omega), the diverse creative teams (artist Stuart Immonen’s wife writes the Hellcat story), and the all-star jam anthology feel that made the first volume so successful.
