House of M: Avengers

When the Scarlet Witch, in her madness, remade the world to give her father, Magneto, his fondest desire, the results were drastic for mutants and humans alike. Marvel’s 2005 event, House of M, cast mutants as the dominant class in all aspects of society while humans became the oppressed underclass, pejoratively referred to as “sapiens.”

Luke Cage, aka Power Man, who was a member of the Avengers in the normal continuity, is the head of a criminal organization in the House of M reality. Despite Cage’s illegal alliances, he enlists several other sapiens, Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Moon Knight and Tigra to oppose the excesses of the new world order. Published late in 2007, (the indicia reads January, 2008), this mini-series appears to be a late tie-in to the House of M event and revisits the “world turned upside down” theme.
