Lady Justice (Neil Gaiman’s…, Vol. 2)

In mid-1996, Big Entertainment relaunched the comics they had formerly published under the Tekno Comics imprint. With it came this second volume of Lady Justice.

For readers coming in late, the concept can lead to some confusion. It is based around the idea of Justice as a cosmic force, represented traditionally as a blindfolded woman wielding a sword. She sees not with human senses and prejudices, but with a faculty all its own which perceives only justice. In the stories, a different woman is portrayed each issue wearing the blindfold of Lady Justice. This is the person whom the spirit of justice has visited for the duration of the tale, and once justice has been achieved, she is typically shown casting off her blindfold. The cosmic force, “Lady Justice,” however, is rarely seen. This rotation of duties allows the writers to explore a wide range of interesting title characters and situations while staying within a broader “super-hero” context.
