Muppet Babies (Star/Marvel)

Jim Henson’s world famous characters, the Muppets, have been around since the 1970s. In the late 1980s, a new version of the Muppets came to children’s television sets on Saturday mornings. The Muppet Babies were toddler versions of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzy Bear, and the other well-known “adult” Muppets. They proved to be a big hit with children all over the country. Like most successful cartoons or movies, Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies sold dolls, play sets, school supplies and most importantly, comic books.
Star Comics, the “kids comics” division of Marvel Comics, acquired the license and published the Babies in a comic series of the same name. Most of the adventures that the Muppet Babies experience are figments of the babies’ playful imaginations. In a lovely example of their childlike perspective, any adults charged with the Muppet Babies’ care were drawn only from the neck down.
