Hot Wheels

Mattel toys had a strong desire to get into the model car market in order to displace the leader in the field, Matchbox. In 1968, they launched the Hot Wheels line that featured wider wheels designed for speed and soon left Matchbox in the dust, eventually buying the company out. By 1969, an animated cartoon series was spun off featuring a group of responsible teen-age racers who called themselves the “Hot Wheels.” Then, this comic book derived, but it’s biggest claim to fame is some excellent Neal Adams artwork.
