The Flash (1st Series)

    (DC, 1959-1985, 2001, 2020-Present)
™ and © DC Comics

Originally known as Flash Comics, this series featured Barry Allen as the red-garbed speedster and Justice League member. Allen is the second person to take on the role of Flash, replacing Jay Garrick, the Flash of the Golden Age.

During the run of this series, Allen squared off against countless colorful villains, including Professor Zoom, Gorilla Grodd, and the Trickster. The series is also notable for the introduction of the hero, Elongated Man, as well as later witnessing EM’s marriage to Sue Dearborn.

Perhaps the high points of the series were its races, particularly the Flash vs. Golden Age Flash and Flash vs. Superman races. These were never straightforward affairs, as letting any hero win without mitigating circumstances would have caused an uproar among the loser’s fans. As such, there were always people to rescue or catastrophes to prevent along the way to the finish line.
