After many years in decline, horror comics enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in the early ’90s. Accordingly, Marvel took the opportunity to republish the adventures of some of its creepier characters from the ’70s in this “Book of the Dead” series.

Among its features, the Book of the Dead reprints the first Marvel appearance of the Frankenstein monster, as well as the origin and first appearance of the shambling swamp creature known as Man-Thing (from the hard-to-find Savage Tales #1). For variety, Marvel also threw in various and sundry horror stories from Chamber of Darkness and other obscure scare titles.
