The Goon (Dark Horse)

To put it bluntly, The Goon is an absolute riot. The story of a man and his sidekick who go in search of a stolen coin collection in a haunted mansion does not do anything remotely ordinary; its off-the-wall nature is what makes it so great.

The Goon and his sidekick, Frank, have obtained a lead on where to find a fortune, which they have to kill a snitch zombie to get. Frank instantly jumps at the case, so he will be able to afford his fetish for pictures of naked women rubbing themselves with biscuits and celebrity underpants. The odd attraction about Frank is that, though he dies for no apparent reason (like an ax to the head that comes from nowhere), he comes right back to life without so much as an explanation.

The comic book is relatively short at 22 pages, so what could have been a great backstory detailing more of the origin of the mansion is not fully detailed. But The Goon is a riot for anyone looking for a comic book that does not feature super-villains and super-heroes. Part mystery, part horror, and funny all the way around, The Goon is great reading for anyone.
