Megaton

Megaton was one of the first of the black-and-white comics in the black-and-white boom of 1983. By 1987, however, the market was glutted and the inevitable bust came. Megaton, one of the early pioneers, became a victim of the shakeout. Its publisher, Gary S. Carlson, went on to work on a variety of projects, including the recent Big Bang Comics.

One of the last projects planned for Megaton had been the Megaton Holiday Special. This had been planned as a 64-page special for Christmas, 1987. It finally saw the light of day in in the end of 1993, thanks to the folks at Express Publications. The tales told here include treasures that many had thought long lost, including previously unpublished Megaton, Feral, and Vanguard Christmas stories. The original special was also slated to have contained the first Youngblood story by Rob Liefeld. Although this story was never completed, its cover was specially colorized, and is presented here for the first time.
