Oh My Goddess! occasionally takes a breather from the lighthearted romance between Keiichi Morisato and his celestial girlfriend Belldandy, a goddess he accidentally reached when he called the wrong number. Part XI, “Banpei in Love,” focuses on Belldandy’s high-I.Q. sibling Skuld and her little robot Banpei. Used by Skuld as a motorcycle or as a watchdog to prevent Morisato and Belldandy from becoming too affectionate, Banpei hogs the spotlight in this tale as he develops feelings for an android girl. Minor details such as Banpei creating a secret password to block the overprotective Skuld from discovering his infatuated computer system adds believability to the story. Artist/writer Kosuke Fujishima shows how much he adores his characters, plumbing the depths of one of the series’ most obscure stars.
