Some people think the whole universe is going to the dogs, and they could be right. The inhabitants of Canida are intelligent humanoids who also happen to be…dogs. Dalgoda is the latest, and reluctant, emissary between the Canidans and Earth in a last-ditch effort to ease the tensions that have grown between the two worlds.

A third, and definitely hostile, species has already destroyed most of the Canidan space fleet. Dalgoda hopes to get some much-needed help from Earth. He finds himself teamed with Posey, a former spaceman with plenty of reasons to dislike both the military and the Canidans. But he and Dal hit it off right away. Now they just have to keep each other alive long enough to get both worlds ready to face an alien invasion. No easy task, considering some of their own people seem determined to kill Dalgoda and end the alliance once and for all.
