Tales to Astonish (Vol. 3)
(Marvel, 1994)
™ and ©1994 Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc.
Following the success of Marvels, 1994 saw Marvel Comics releasing two one-shots named for Marvel’s key team-up books of the 1960s: Strange Tales and Tales to Astonish. The new, third volume of Tales to Astonish teamed acclaimed writer Peter David with painter John Estes to tell an epic tale of gods and monsters.
Like the first Tales to Astonish series, this modern book stars Hank Pym (formerly Giant Man) and the Incredible Hulk, adding in Pym’s now former-wife Jan (the Wasp) for good measure. Hank and Jan had gone to Oslo, Norway for a well-earned vacation only to run afoul of a serial murderer named Knut Caine. They tracked Caine to a lonely fjord, only to lose him when he fell into the icy waters below. It was then that the evil god Loki appeared to Caine, offering him great powers in exchange for his life. Thus Caine became reborn as an earthly incarnation of Loki—and was determined to bring about Ragnarok!
