Spider-Man: The Final Adventure

This four-issue mini-series was purported to be the culmination of the Spider-Clone storyline, one of the most controversial and unpopular plots in Marvel Comics’ history.

In this series, a character named Ben Reilly appears and is revealed to be the true Peter Parker. This leaves Peter Parker, the character Marvel readers had known for over 20 years as The Amazing Spider-Man, to live a normal life with his family. But before he lets Reilly take his place, Parker has to stop a vicious killer, Tendril, and cure Dryrot, a pitiful decaying man. Both characters were exposed to the same device that originally gave Parker his powers, and his efforts may have profound consequences on his ambiguous identity.

Eventually Marvel revised this convoluted, perplexing clone story.
